Check Out Technology

Circulating technology can be used on campus or taken home by HT students, faculty, staff, and administrators. These items cannot be reserved online. Please contact the Media and Technical Services Office at 512.505.3052 or library@htu.edu to reserve a device or ask about availability.

How to Check Out Technology: Bring your HT ID card to the Circulation Desk or Room 103. A librarian will scan your card and the device’s bar code. Check your @htu.edu inbox for a confirmation email and due date reminders. See our Technology Lending Policies page for more about due dates and circulation periods. Please return the device to the location where you checked it out! You do not need your ID card to return an item.

Responsibilities: Borrowers are responsible for the items they check out. They must keep these items safe and in working order. Items must be returned on time (as per our Technology Lending Policies), and with all included components. Damaged or partial items may be considered nonreturnable and the user may be fined the replacement cost of the device.

Cleaning Procedures: All returned devices will be cleaned with a 70% alcohol solution before they can be checked out again. This will ensure the general cleanliness of the device. Items being renewed by the same user do not have to be cleaned, but cleaning will be offered as a courtesy between checkouts.

Computers and Tablets

	Student Chromebooks Circulation Desk	Students may check out 1 Chromebook for 1 week at a time. A Gmail account is required for login, or users may browse as “Guest”. Chromebooks do not have Microsoft Office and work entirely within Google Suite. Multiple devices available. Includes 1 charger.

	2-in-1 Chromebooks Room 103	Faculty and staff may check out 2-in-1 Chromebooks. A Gmail account is required for login, or users may browse as “Guest”. 2-in-1 Chromebooks work as laptops or as tablets, and are touchscreens. They do not have Microsoft Office and work entirely within Google Suite. Multiple devices available. Includes 1 charger.

	Laptops Room 103	Dell Latitude 5590s are available to faculty and staff for use on campus and away. These laptops include Microsoft Office 365. Login data provided on checkout. Apps and files may be downloaded. All user data will be erased upon return. Multiple devices available. Includes 1 charger. Wireless mouse available (see below).

	iPads Room 103	NEW iPads (Apple) may be used within the library only for data collection, check-ins, or game play. Available to students, faculty, and staff for in-library use ONLY. No login. Apps may be downloaded. User data will be erased upon return. 2 devices available. Includes charger kit and box.

	Samsung Galaxy Tablets Room 103	NEW Samsung Galaxy tablets (Android) can be used for mobile data collection, check-ins, or game play. Available to students, faculty, and staff. No login. Apps may be downloaded. User data will be erased upon return. 3 devices available. Includes charger kit and box.

Presentation and Audiovisual

	DVD Drives Room 103	NEW plug-and-play Dell USB Slim DVD Drives connect to any computer. Easy to use. Show a movie to a class or a group; burn information to a disc; download content from a disc. 5 devices available. Includes DVD drive, cable, software CD, and box.

	Public Address Speaker System Room 103	This portable speaker system works on battery power or can be plugged in for indoor or outdoor events. Use this to address a crowd or plug in to a computer via USB cord to play music for an event. 1 device available. Includes carrying bag, wireless microphone, remote, charging cord, and user manual.

	USB Microphones Room 103	Simple plug-and-play microphones connect to computers and laptops via USB cord to improve your video and voice call quality. Instant setup, no download necessary. Works with PC and Apple devices. Adjustable volume. 5 devices available.

	Blue Yeti USB Microphones Room 103, Recording Booth	NEW plug-and-play USB microphone helps produce pristine, studio-quality recordings with legendary ease. 	Wireless Mice Room 103	USB-connected wireless mice plug into most laptops and desktops. Instant setup, no download necessary. 5 devices available. Includes 1 AA battery and USB port.

	Projectors Room 103	Small, lightweight projectors connect to any computer or laptop to produce a clear picture on a wall or screen (see below). Must be connected to a AC outlet – does not run on battery. Easy to set up. Includes storage box, setup instructions, remote, power cord, and USB-C cord. 2 devices available.

	Projector Screens Room 103	Large projector screens create surfaces anywhere. Widescreen rolls up within frame for easy deployment and storage. Frame supports screen and maintains tension for an unrumpled surface. Extends up to 50″. Heavy – use handles to lift. Not a whiteboard: do not write on the screen. 4 screens available.

	Camcorders Room 103	Pocket-sized and rugged camcorder fits in a hand but goes anywhere. Records hours of HD video footage to microSD card. Weather- and water-resistant, but should not be submerged. Built-in USB toggles out for easy downloading of tracks to your computer or laptop. 3 devices available. Includes microSD card and 2 AAA batteries.

	Headphones Circulation Desk	Available to students for use in the library. Check out at the circulation desk to listen to music or watch a movie without disturbing your neighbors. Compatible with USB-C and headphone jack outlets. Multiple devices available.

	TI-84 Graphing Calculators Circulation Desk	Available to students for math homework, study assistance, and reference to textbooks. Check out at the circulation desk. 2 devices available.

	Promethean Quizzers Room 103	Handheld devices for classrooms receive quiz questions set by instructor, allow students to answer individually. Great for voting, feedback, and within-lecture pop quizzes. Transmit questions to devices from computer using included ActiveHub USB device. 24 devices available. Includes ActiveHub transmitter, ActiveHub base, and USB extension cable (6′). Carrying case optional.

	Connector Cables, Various Room 103	Connect devices of all kinds to share, present, and communicate.
