Austin, TX — Huston-Tillotson University President and CEO Dr. Melva K. Wallace has been recognized as one of Austin’s rising leaders in a new feature by VoyageAustin, highlighting her journey, leadership philosophy and vision for the future of one of the nation’s most historic Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
The feature, “Rising Stars: Meet Melva Wallace of Austin,” published August 11, offers an intimate look at the experiences, values and faith that have shaped President Wallace’s leadership and her commitment to advancing Huston-Tillotson University.
For President Wallace, leadership is deeply personal.
Raised by two educators and proud HBCU graduates, Wallace says her parents instilled in her the values of faith, integrity, hard work, service, excellence and treating every person with dignity and respect—principles that continue to guide her leadership today.
Those values have followed her throughout a distinguished career in higher education, including leadership and service at Grambling State University and within the Southern University System before joining Huston-Tillotson University. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Grambling State University and her Ph.D. from Jackson State University.
