Huston-Tillotson Alumnus David Godsey Partners with Dallas Mavericks

Austin, TX — Huston-Tillotson University is celebrating alumnus and Board of Trustees Chair David Godsey following the announcement of a new multi-year partnership between The Godsey Law Firm and the Dallas Mavericks

The Dallas-based firm, founded by Godsey in 2007, has been named the Official Law Sponsor of the Mavericks. The agreement will showcase The Godsey Law Firm throughout the NBA season through in-arena experiences, original content and community initiatives.

One of the highlights will be “Defending Dallas,” a season-long campaign presented by The Godsey Law Firm that connects the team’s defensive play on the court with giving back in the community.

During each Mavericks home game, a live “Defending Dallas” tracker will count every steal and blocked shot by the team. For each one, The Godsey Law Firm will make a donation to the Mavs Foundation, which supports programs serving children, women and families throughout North Texas.

The firm will also serve as presenting sponsor of the Mavericks’ annual Turkey Giveaway, helping provide holiday meals to families during the team’s Season of Giving.

A 1994 HT graduate, Godsey’s success comes as no surprise. He has long been a champion of the University and its students and now serves his alma mater as chair of the Board of Trustees. In 2023, while serving as commencement speaker, he announced his commitment of $1 million over 10 years to his alma mater.

“Attorney Godsey’s commitment to giving back is as much a part of his story as his professional success,” HT President Melva K. Wallace said. “This partnership with the Dallas Mavericks reflects so much of what we know about him — he believes in giving back, investing in people and being present in the communities that matter to him. We are proud to call him an alumnus, and even prouder that he continues to give that same commitment to his alma mater.”
