University Archivist

In August 2018, I became Library Director and Archivist of Huston-Tillotson University. In addition to the management and administration of the library, I oversee the university archives and participate in providing research and literacy instruction. I am passionate about student engagement, connecting others with the resources they need to be successful, storytelling, and promoting lifelong learning. I received my B.A. in Fashion Merchandising from Howard University and M.S. in Library Science from North Carolina Central University. I’m a huge fan of HBCUs! In my free time I enjoy travelling, painting, going to concerts, and writing.

Katie Ashton is from Austin, Texas, but most of her family is from England. She holds a B.A. in Psychology from St. Edward’s University and a Master’s in Information Science from the University of Texas, and combines the two to think about what you might like to read. With the Downs-Jones Library since 2013, she is now responsible for providing online resources, buying and processing print and digital books, and making media technology available to the campus. When not at the library, she enjoys writing, reading all the science fiction and fantasy she can get her hands on, and playing with her two cats, Diesel and Raven.

David Sylvia has lived in the Austin area for about three years. Before then, he lived, studied and worked in other Texas cities such as Houston, Denton, and Dallas. Starting as a Creative Writing undergraduate with a Philosophy minor, he managed university writing programs for over half a decade before pursuing a master’s degree in Library Science and transitioning into academic librarianship. David continues to further his education in an online Learning Technologies doctoral program where he is studying the use of technology in academic library spaces and in storytelling for educational purposes. In his spare time, David enjoys reading, storytelling, riding his bike, and spending time with his friends and family.

Sarah Brzozowski (pronounced Br-zow-ski) is from Austin, Texas. She recently earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Creative Writing and English. Her ultimate goal is to earn a Masters of Library Information Science to fulfill her dream of being a youth librarian. Sarah’s favorite work activity is helping with library events for the students and staff to enjoy. When she’s not at work, you can find her hiking around town, playing board games with friends and family, and sharing her love of reading and TV binging with her husband and two sister kitties, Sugar and Murphy.

I am Latinx, born and raised in Chicago, IL. In Austin, besides working in this fantastic position, I am also a graduate student at UT-Austin in Latin American Studies. In my downtime, I enjoy spending time with my mini Poodle named Sol. While I am at HT, I love to assist students who need help finding books or articles for their classes or their leisure. I am fully fluent in Spanish because of my Mexican background and am always willing to help students who need support in this area as well.
