Huston-Tillotson University proudly celebrates National Intern Day by recognizing our students who dedicated their summer to gaining valuable hands-on experience through internships.
Internships provide students with the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge in real-world professional settings while strengthening essential career readiness skills, including professionalism, communication, critical thinking, and teamwork. These experiences not only prepare students for successful careers but also help them explore industries and professions aligned with their academic and career goals.
This summer, HT students completed internships with outstanding organizations, including ETS-Lindgren, the Austin Independent School District Finance Department, Godsey Law Firm, Salesforce, and many other local, regional, and national employers. Through these opportunities, our students made meaningful contributions to their host organizations while gaining invaluable professional experience.
Internships also benefit employers by introducing fresh perspectives, innovative ideas, and the opportunity to cultivate future talent. These partnerships are an investment in the next generation of leaders and create pathways to long-term career success.
“My internship at Godsey Law Firm was an incredibly rewarding and enriching experience,” said YaMun Hempstead majoring in English. “Learning from accomplished legal professionals who reflect my aspirations has been both inspiring and empowering. The firm provided me with invaluable opportunities to build meaningful professional connections and gain hands-on legal experience. For many students, internships have become the bridge between education and employment. Research consistently shows that students who complete internships are more competitive in the job market, have a higher chance of receiving full-time employment offers, feel more comfortable as early career professionals, and transition more successfully into their careers.
“At HT, we are dedicated to preparing students for internships and other experiential opportunities,” said Ms. Tina Reed, Director of HT’s Quality Enhancement Plan (a career readiness plan). “Our HT constituents are so committed to the students obtaining and completing internships that the university included an internship component in its Strategic Plan as one of its strategic priorities.”
