Farzana Hussain, Ph.D.

Professor and Chair of Mathematics

Dr. Farzana Hussain has 27 years of academic experience and expertise in both pure and applied mathematics. Her teaching experience includes courses in Calculus, College Algebra, Introductory Statistics, Number Theory, Numerical Techniques, Discrete Mathematics, Linear Algebra, Real Analysis, and General Topology. Her research fields include Data Science, Machine Learning, Dynamic Meteorology, Numerical Analysis, and Partial Differential Equations. She has published 19 research papers in various local and international journals.

Dr. Hussain completed her B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Mathematics from Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, one of the highest-ranking universities in Bangladesh. She earned her Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from the same university, specializing in Finite Element Analysis. Dr. Hussain is also certified in teaching math for grades 6 to 12 and Quality Matters Rubrics. She has earned Professional Certificates in Data Science and Data Analytics from IBM Skills Network and in Machine Learning from Stanford University (Continuing Education).

Dr. Hussain is the recipient of the “Center for Undergraduate Research in Mathematics” (CURM) Mini-Grant for 2020–2021. She was awarded the Golden Apple Teacher Award in 2020. Dr. Hussain received the Faculty Fellowship 2022–24 from the Artificial Intelligence Institute for Optimization at Georgia Tech University, the NIH’s AIM-AHEAD Leadership Fellowship 2022–23, and the Propel HBCU Faculty Fellowship 2024–25.
