Austin, Texas — Huston-Tillotson University men’s soccer coach Aaron Yancy has been named the HBCU Athletic Conference’s 2025 Coach of the Year, while freshman Alejandro Cruz earned a spot on the league’s All-Conference Team, the conference announced Tuesday.

Now in his third season leading the Rams, Yancy, a 2011 HT alumnus, has guided the team to its best season and first conference postseason appearance since 2022. The 2022 Rams finished 8-7 and reached the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) Tournament.

In their first season as members of the HBCU Athletic Conference (HBCUAC), the Rams posted a 7-7 record and went 2-2 in conference play.

The Rams are seeking their third conference tournament title and their first since capturing the 2011 RRAC Championship. Yancy, who played a key role as a student-athlete when HT won its first RRAC title in 2006, now has the opportunity to lead the Rams to another historic run as head coach.

Freshman midfielder Alejandro Cruz, from Lockhart, Texas, was named to the All-HBCUAC Team after a standout first collegiate season. Cruz contributed two goals and two assists, logging 1,056 minutes of playing time the third-most on the team behind Dominique Munson-Garza and Manuel “Lito” Guevara.

The Rams will play in the HBCU Athletic Conference Championship on Friday, November 7, 2025 at 6 p.m. against Wiley University.
