Austin, Texas — The Huston-Tillotson University (HT) volleyball program has received a $50k gift from an anonymous donor, one of the largest single sports-related contributions in the university’s history.
In a statement, the anonymous donor cited the program’s culture and leadership as factors in the decision to give.
“Collegiate athletics provide an environment for student-athletes to develop commitment, confidence and leadership,” the donor said. “Coach LaTonya Washington has built a program that values academics, community service, teamwork and competitive success. We are pleased to support Huston-Tillotson’s volleyball program as it continues to build for the future.”
The gift follows a successful 2025 season in the program’s first year competing in the NAIA’s HBCU Athletic Conference. HT finished the season with a 15-13 overall record, including a 10-2 mark in conference play, and advanced to the semifinal round of the HBCUAC postseason tournament.
“This level of support is incredibly meaningful,” said LaTonya Washington, head volleyball coach. “We are grateful for the opportunity to continue moving our program forward.”
Under Washington’s leadership, the Rams have improved their overall winning percentage in each of her three seasons as head coach. Four HT players earned All-HBCUAC first- and second-team honors following the 2025 regular season.
“This contribution reflects confidence in our university and our athletics program,” said Vincent Robinson, director of intercollegiate athletics. “We are grateful for the resources that will help us continue achieving success on the court and in the classroom.”
