Md Shah Alam, PhD

Assistant Professor of Mathematics

Dr. Md Shah Alam is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Huston-Tillotson University in Austin, Texas. He earned his Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Houston, where his dissertation, Global Existence of Solutions for a Class of Nonlocal Reaction-Diffusion Systems and Their Diffusive Limit, was supervised by Dr. Jeffrey Morgan. Prior to that, he completed his M.S. in Mathematics at Texas Tech University, focusing on the parameter sensitivity analysis of ovarian tumor growth models, and his B.S. in Mathematics from the University of Dhaka in Bangladesh.

Dr. Alam’s research spans nonlocal reaction-diffusion systems, mathematical biology, and numerical partial differential equations, integrating rigorous mathematical analysis with computational methods. His scholarly work has been published in respected journals, including the Journal of Applied Mathematics and Physics, GANIT: Journal of Bangladesh Mathematical Society, and the Malaysian Journal of Mathematical Sciences. He has also presented at professional conferences such as the SIAM Texas–Louisiana Section Meeting, contributing to discussions at the intersection of applied mathematics and biological modeling.

A passionate educator, Dr. Alam has taught a broad range of courses—from College Algebra and Calculus to Linear Algebra and Engineering Mathematics—using active learning techniques that foster collaboration and conceptual understanding. With prior teaching experience at the University of Houston, Texas Tech University, and North South University in Bangladesh, he brings a global perspective to his classroom. His goal is to inspire students to think critically, appreciate the beauty of mathematics, and apply analytical reasoning to solve real-world problems.
