Requesting Accommodations

1. Submit Documentation

Eligible documentation includes:

  • IEP or 504 Plan
  • Psychological or psychoeducational evaluations
  • Medical provider letters
  • Any professional documentation outlining diagnosis and functional limitations

2. Meet with the Coordinator

You will meet with Mr. Houston to discuss your needs, review your documentation, and determine appropriate accommodations.

3. Accommodation Letter

Once approved, an official ADA Accommodation Letter will be created for you to share with your instructors.

4. Connect with Your Professors

Students are encouraged to meet with faculty early in the semester to discuss how accommodations will be implemented. Support is available if you need help navigating these conversations.

5. Ongoing Support

Accommodations may be adjusted at any time. Check-ins are welcome throughout the semester.

Accommodations vary by student need and may include:

  • Extended time for testing or assignments
  • Reduced-distraction testing environments
  • Note-taking support
  • Audio-recording lectures
  • Accessible seating
  • Alternative-format textbooks
  • Assistive technology
  • Housing modifications
  • Mobility or transportation support
  • Flexible attendance (when appropriate)
  • Priority registration

Confidentiality

All disability-related information is confidential and handled with discretion according to federal privacy guidelines.

Temporary Disabilities

If you experience a temporary impairment—such as a broken limb, surgery recovery, or short-term medical condition—HTU can offer temporary accommodations such as mobility assistance, classroom access support, or academic flexibility.
