Dr. Ronnie Wilson

Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities

Dr. Ronnie C. Wilson is a distinguished musician, conductor, and scholar whose work spans choral artistry, music education, and sacred music leadership. A native of Newport News, Virginia, Dr. Wilson earned his Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance with honors from Norfolk State University, followed by a Master of Sacred Music from Southern Methodist University through Perkins School of Theology, where he specialized in choral conducting.

Dr. Wilson completed his Ph.D. in Music Education at the University of Missouri–Columbia, where he served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant and Assistant Conductor for the University Singers and the Sankofa Chorale. His research and artistic interests center on the intersections of vocal pedagogy, choral culture, and the lived experiences of diverse musical communities.

He currently serves as Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities at Huston-Tillotson University in Austin, Texas, where he leads the university’s choral ensembles and teaches in the music program. Dr. Wilson also serves as Vocal Director for Global United Fellowship under Bishop Joel Peebles, Prelate, contributing to large-scale worship and performance initiatives that reach national and international audiences.

Though based in Texas, Dr. Wilson continues to guide the music ministry of New Hope Baptist Church in Hampton, Virginia, where he has long provided artistic and spiritual leadership. His professional activities include national and international performances, collaborations with esteemed ensembles and recording artists, and frequent work as a guest conductor and clinician.
A recipient of the 2023 Black Men Image Rock Awards for Vocal Artist of the Year and Conductor of the Year, Dr. Wilson is committed to advancing musical excellence, fostering inclusive artistic communities, and promoting the transformative power of choral music within academic, sacred, and global contexts.
