Huston-Tillotson University Selects Mississippi Architecture Firm as Master Planners

Austin, Texas – January 15, 2025 – After a robust process of interviewing over 15 architectural firms, Huston-Tillotson University (HT) has chosen Mc3lroy Architecture, PLLC (M3A) to guide the university’s infrastructure development. As one of the largest vacant landowners in downtown / East Austin, and under the leadership of President and CEO, Dr. Melva K. Wallace, HT is reinvigorating its historic campus with an eye toward innovation.
In 2024, the HT Board nominated Austin master developer, Greg Weaver, of Catellus and visionary behind the Mozart’s Coffee Light Show, Katrine Formby, as board co-chairs of the master planning committee to support Dr. Wallace through this historic initiative. The master planning sub-committee then assembled an Austin based external committee with list of well-respected leaders in the industry such as (Jim Susman, FAIA, of STG Design who recently won Texas Society of Architects Lifetime Achievement Award and Jim Adams of McCann Adams Studio who led the master planning for the Mueller Airport who served as committee leads).
This rigorous vetting process led to the selection of Mc3lroy Architecture who is Collaborating with Smallwood Architecture, M3A will enhance campus facilities to support HT’s mission, vision, and values, while positioning the University’s future growth and innovation.
“The selection of Mc3lroy Architecture marks a significant milestone in our commitment to expanding and improving Huston-Tillotson University’s physical campus,” said HT President and CEO Melva K. Wallace. “Thoughtfully designed additions and renovations to our campus are essential to enhancing a vibrant learning environment. This master plan will be bold. Unlike anything that has been seen in Austin. It will be historically modern.”
In June 2024, HT unveiled its 10-year strategic plan, which highlighted a number of priorities that included campus improvements. The Master Plan, developed through this collaboration, is the first step in creating spaces that result in significant expansion and upgrades to the campus.
