RTC FAQs

We understand transitioning to college can be a bit overwhelming. Huston-Tillotson is here to help you along the way, while creating new, festive memories. All Ram Training Camp events and activities will be held in-person.

The following Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) is for new first-year and transfer students.

When does orientation take place?

RTC runs from Sunday, August 18th to Sunday, August 25th. Visit the RTC site in Canvas for details & links to events. Click here for a list of RTC activities at a glance.

Who is required to attend orientation?

New transfer students living off-campus and all traditional new students are required to attend all RTC activities.

How long does RTC take?

Ram Training Camp runs the course of 7 days, Sunday, August 18th – Sunday, August 25th. Per the RTC Schedule, The Virtual Parent Orientation Session will be held on Friday, August 11th from 6:00pm – 7:00pm (Central Standard Time). I am an International student. Do I attend RTC?

Yes. All new students must attend RTC activities, including international students. International students should first confirm move-in date and time with Residence Life, then work to coordinate travel to Huston-Tillotson University prior to in-person RTC activities. Questions? How can I learn how to use Canvas?

Canvas is HT’s learning management system that supports teaching and learning. All students can become familiar with Canvas by completing the Canvas Student Orientation. This module is located on the Dashboard, once signed into Canvas. Visit the tech support site to learn how to sign into Canvas and get started!

Do student guests, such parents, family and friends attend RTC?

Guests who attend RTC with you will not participate in campus activities, rather they will be invited to 1) assist their student with move-in, and 2) parents will attend a specific session, Virtual Parent Orientation scheduled 6:00pm CST Friday, August 11th.

How do I stay connected and monitor RTC announcements?

Stay connected! Follow & post using #HTYou, #EmpoweringExcellence and #RamTrainingCamp on all social media platforms. It is important to follow, @hustontillotsonuniversity and @caeassist on IG for all RTC announcements.

Huston-Tillotson University is affiliated with The United Methodist Church, the United Church of Christ, and the United Negro College Fund (UNCF). HT, in Austin, is a coeducational college of liberal arts and sciences, operating jointly under the auspices of the American Missionary Association of the United Church of Christ, and the Board of Education of The United Methodist Church. Huston-Tillotson College officially changed its name to Huston-Tillotson University on February 28, 2005.

Huston-Tillotson University’s business hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. CST.
