Indeed CEO Chris Hyams and Catellus President Greg Weaver Join Huston-Tillotson University Board of Trustees

AUSTIN, Texas – Huston-Tillotson University, the first institution of higher learning in Austin, is proud to announce the appointment of Indeed CEO Chris Hyams and Catellus President Greg Weaver to its Board of Trustees. The new trustees, who officially joined on Saturday, April 22, 2023, bring extensive experience and unique perspectives to the board of the historically Black college and university (HBCU) in Austin. Hyams and Weaver join 16 other members and strengthen the university’s commitment to workforce development and facility expansion improvements.

“We are thrilled to welcome Chris Hyams and Greg Weaver to the Huston-Tillotson University Board of Trustees,” said Huston-Tillotson University President Melva K. Wallace (formerly Williams). “Their impressive leadership skills, passion for education, and community engagement will significantly contribute to our institution’s growth and continued success.”

Chris Hyams, CEO of Indeed, the world’s leading job site, has consistently demonstrated his commitment to diversity and inclusion in the workplace. Under his leadership, Indeed has made significant strides in breaking down bias and barriers in hiring and opening up access to opportunities for all job seekers, including partnering with HBCUs on various initiatives.

Greg Weaver, President of Catellus, a national leader in mixed-use and sustainable community development, has a proven track record in creating and promoting environmentally responsible and economically viable projects. He brings a wealth of experience in community development and sustainable practices to the board.

“I am excited to join the Huston-Tillotson University Board of Trustees and support its mission of providing an inclusive, high-quality education to students from diverse backgrounds,” said Weaver. “My experience in sustainable development aligns well with the university’s commitment to creating a better future for its students and the broader community.”

Adding Chris Hyams and Greg Weaver to the Huston-Tillotson University Board of Trustees will help ensure the continued growth and success of the HBCU as it works to fulfill its mission of educating and empowering students to become leaders in a rapidly changing world. During the same Board of Trustees meeting, a vote was affirmed to add a Master’s degree program in Forensic Psychology to the University’s educational offerings.

Huston-Tillotson University is governed by a self-perpetuating Board of Trustees of distinguished local and national alumni, educators, entrepreneurs, church representatives, and community leaders. The Board of Trustees meets two times per year and is responsible for the vision, mission, and governance of the University and the supervision of the President. The Chair of the Board of Trustees is Dr. Carol L. McDonald of Austin, Texas.

About Huston-Tillotson University

Huston-Tillotson University is a private, historically black institution located in Austin, Texas, with a rich heritage stemming from its founding in 1875. HT was established by merging two separate institutions, Samuel Huston College and Tillotson

College, in 1952. The university is affiliated with the United Methodist Church and the United Church of Christ, and it serves a diverse student body of approximately 1,200 students. Jackie Robinson, the legendary baseball player who broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball and became an icon for racial integration in sports was a Samuel Huston College instructor, basketball coach, and athletic director before joining the Brooklyn Dodgers. He later served on the Huston-Tillotson College Board of Trustees. By providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment, HT continues to foster the development of future leaders who contribute to the betterment of society.
