Campus Reactivation Update – Residential Life And Athletics

Dear Huston-Tillotson Campus Community,

We are very excited to have our students return to campus in August! These last 18 months have been a journey we will never forget. As reactivation planning continues, what endures and remains paramount is the safety, health, and overall well-being of members of our campus community. We are excited to be reunited and once again experience the intellectual curiosity, learning, growth, joy, and life experiences this campus brings us all. We are all inspired by each other’s perseverance, and we look forward to welcoming our students back to campus very soon.

The university continues with a proactive, science-based approach to reactivating campus and curbing the spread of COVID-19. Given the status of the ongoing pandemic in Travis County and the city of Austin’s COVID-19 Risk-Based Guidelines, we are requiring COVID-19 vaccination or an approved notarized exemption for all residential students (i.e., students that live on campus) and student athletes.

Individuals who live in shared or congregate housing like student residence halls are considered high-risk populations. Individuals living in these spaces have a more challenging time social distancing since they share social, leisure, sleeping, dining, and many other types of areas and many different types of shared equipment.

Athletes are considered high-risk populations because they are constantly in close contact with many people, including teammates, players, coaches, etc. They also travel frequently to diverse destinations for games and other events.

HT’s Safe and Healthy Rams initiative provides resources and education for students and the campus community regarding COVID-19 vaccination. Opportunities for on-campus vaccination will be provided in partnership with local health authorities during move-in. Please go to the HT Safe & Healthy Rams reactivation site to see all vaccination policies, including those for residential students and student athletes. We encourage you to visit this site routinely for updates.

To find a location to receive a COVID-19 vaccination, we encourage you to visit Vaccines.gov. This site will help you identify locations near you where the vaccination is readily available. We also encourage you to watch HT’s “Answering Questions Dispelling Myths Telling Truths” as it addresses questions surrounding the COVID-19 vaccine specific to people of color.
