National Career Development Month Challenge Calendar Descriptions

Think Professionalism

  • Tuesday, November 1- Visit your Academic Advisor and register for Spring 2023 classes
  • Wednesday, November 2- Wear your favorite business professional attire
  • Thursday, November 3- Craft your Personal (Elevator) Pitch

On-site: Davage-Darden Student Union 11:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m. Ms. Reed Director of the RAMSS QEP and Mr. Lasell, Internship Coordinator will be on hand to assist you with perfecting your personal pitch. We’ll provide you with a personal pitch template that will help you to be “pitch perfect”.

  • Friday, November 4

Connect with your mentor/mentee. Send your mentor or mentee an email and request to meet up. If you don’t have a mentor, contact Ms. Tina Reed at bereed@htu.edu and she will get some information for you.

Think Communications (oral and written)

  • Tuesday, November 8- T-shirt Tuesday: Wear your RAMSS T-shirt or an HT T-shirt  GO VOTE!
  • Wednesday, November 9-Schedule an appointment with your career advisor.
  • Thursday, November 10- Faculty and Staff Presentation

Join us in the Library, Room 104 at 12 noon for “Skills that Thrill: What Employers Want in Candidates”. Ms. Reed, RAMSS QEP Director, will show the importance of incorporating career readiness skills into our campus culture. It’s also quite easy to do.

  • Friday, November 11- Thank you, Veterans! Write a “thank you” note to an HT Veteran.
       On-site: Join us in the Davage-Darden Student Union 11:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m. We’ll have nice stationary for you to use to write the letter.

Think Critical Thinking/Problem Solving

  • Tuesday, November 15- Skills on Your Resume

On-site: Join HT’s Apple Ambassador and CPI student, Jaymee Yelton at the resume workshop. She’s show you new and creative ways to enhance your resume. Location: A-L Building, Room 316 5:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m.

  • Wednesday, November 16- SkillsFirst Presentation

Learn how to use our career readiness technology for resume, interview, and personal pitch preparation. All HT Community is invited to attend this virtual presentation via Zoom. The link will be sent via htu email.

  • Thursday, November 17- Mock Interviews

On-site: Mock interview will take place in the HT Library and in the Dickey Lawless Building. Sign-up begins Nov. 4. Information will be sent through email. Students who participate will have the opportunity to practice enhancing their interview skills. At the end of the interview, students will receive feedback. This is a very good critical thinking/problem solving activity for students.

  • Friday, November 18- Faculty Career Champion Appreciation and Survey Day

The RAMSS QEP Climate Survey will be available for faculty. The first 10 faculty who complete the survey will receive a gift card. The Survey for faculty will be available from November 18- November 30

  • November 19- Chat with your family about financial planning.

Begin or continue a conversation about financial planning and wellness with you parents, grandparents, siblings, and even your friends. Brainstorm about how you can prepare for your future through saving and investing. Open a savings account, a retirement account, or make small investments. Even saving $5 a month will add up.

Think Update

  • November 22- Update your LinkedIn Account

LinkedIn is a great way to network and meet professionals in your industry and beyond. Click on the link to read how you can update you’re your resume

  • November 25- Create or update your 2023 budget.

Your salary or any money you earn and your budget are two things that work in tandem. Begin learning to use a budget to avoid going into too much debt.  Remember to “Act Your Wage”.

Think Reflection

November 30- Please complete the RAMSS QEP Reflection Survey. Once completed, your name will be entered into a drawing to win a $50 H-E-B Gift Card.
