Huston-Tillotson University to Host the 4th Annual Texas HBCU Democracy Schools Conference

Education Event for General Audience, Texas HBCU Students, Faculty, Staff, Community Partners and Supporters

Austin, Texas – March 7, 2025 – Huston-Tillotson University (HT) through the Politics Lab of the James L. Farmer House (Farmer House) is sharing the inspirational story of hope and faith, and citizenship education in Texas’ and America’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in the Democracy Schools Conference Series of Texas HBCUs. The two-day conference, the fourth in an annual series, will take place Friday and Saturday, April 4-5, 2025, in Austin, TX, on the campus of the University (900 Chicon Street). On Friday afternoon the conference will march solemnly from the University campus to the State Capitol to participate in the 89th Texas Legislative Session. Supporters will speak at a public hearing of state lawmakers on behalf the historic civic education bill written by students and stakeholders. The bill aims to provide civic education free of charge to the people of Texas through a consortium of Texas HBCUs, county governments, and community partners. The event brings stakeholders (students, faculty, staff, community partners and supporters of Texas HBCUs) and general audiences together on the historic campus of the University. Ticket price for students is $25, $125 for Faculty/Administration, and $130 for Community Partners and Supporters. Attendees will share meals, hear from prominent nationally recognized speakers across the ideology spectrum, experts and historians of Black educational philosophy and practice, and more. Ticket prices are all-inclusive.

Participation in conference events without registering is open to the public subject to seating capacity after registrants have been seated.  No meals without registration.
