Huston-Tillotson University Student Launches Innovative AI-Powered Job Search App
Tuesday Apr, 01 2025
Austin, Texas April 1, 2025 — A Huston-Tillotson University (HT) student is transforming the job search experience through innovation and artificial intelligence (AI). Oluwapelumi Dada, a senior majoring in computer science, has combined technical expertise and entrepreneurial spirit to launch a groundbreaking app called Sorce that streamlines the job application process for users around the world.
Dubbed “Tinder for jobs,” the app was born out of personal necessity. While applying for internships, Dada found the process tedious and time-consuming. That experience sparked the idea to leverage AI to make job hunting more efficient. In February 2024, he and another HT student created One Click Apply, the app’s original name. In April, Dada incorporated the company, and by late August, he launched Sorce.
Sorce has already gained traction and acclaim, with more than 200,000 users having accessed the app, which has also received over 7.5 million swipes. Hundreds of users have reported successfully landing interviews for jobs in several different career fields. When users swipe the app, AI goes directly to the company’s website and applies on their behalf.
“One of the greatest rewards of having built Sorce is when we receive positive feedback from users who inform us that they actually landed a job,” the Nigeria native said.
The user base is diverse—serving mid-level tech professionals, executives seeking new opportunities, students applying for internships, and individuals pursuing roles in retail. Revenue is generated through user subscriptions, and the venture has also benefited from funding secured through competitive grants and entrepreneurial competitions.
Sorce offers premium features for $15 per week or $40 per month, along with a free plan that allows users five free swipes per day.
Dada’s love for technology began early while pursuing his secondary education at Government Science Secondary School Pyakasa, where he served as project prefect and led all science competition initiatives for the school. That early passion for STEM followed him to Huston-Tillotson University, where he chose to pursue computer science because of the university’s strong academic program, generous financial aid, and robust international student community.
On campus, he is highly regarded as a scholar and student leader. He served as vice president of the Student Government Association (SGA) during his sophomore year, assistant coach of the soccer team, and was employed as a resident assistant (RA) for two academic years. In addition, he is an active member of the Apple Coding Club, the International Student Organization, and the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE).
Scheduled to graduate in May, Dada is already looking to the future, with no intention of slowing down. “My long-term goal is to run this company,” he said.
Dada and other students of his academic caliber are living proof of why HT has thrived for 150 years. They exemplify the innovation, leadership, and impact that define the HT legacy.
“This is exactly the kind of brilliance we nurture at Huston-Tillotson,” said President Melva K. Wallace. “Our students are building solutions for real-world challenges, and Dada’s success is a shining example of how far an HT education can take you — from Nigeria to Austin to the global tech stage.”
