Huston-Tillotson University Kicks Off Sesquicentennial Celebration with a Year-Long Series of Festivities

Austin, Texas – October 30, 2024 – Huston-Tillotson University is thrilled to announce the commencement of its sesquicentennial celebration, marking 150 years of academic excellence, community engagement, and cultural heritage.

This historic milestone will be commemorated with a series of events and activities throughout the year, honoring the rich legacy and promising future of Huston-Tillotson University.

Founded in 1875, Huston-Tillotson University has been a beacon of higher education, resilience, and innovation for generations. This year-long celebration, themed “150 Years of Igniting Impact and Innovation,” aims to unite alumni, students, faculty, staff, and the broader community in a vibrant tribute to the university’s enduring impact.

“We are incredibly proud to celebrate 150 years of Huston-Tillotson University’s legacy,” said Dr. Melva K. Wallace, University President. “This sesquicentennial is not just a reflection of our past achievements but also a beacon guiding us towards a future of continued excellence and innovation. We invite everyone to join us in this joyous celebration and be part of our ongoing journey.”

Celebration Highlights:

  1. Charter Day Sesquicentennial Kickoff: The festivities will kick off with an on-campus celebration, featuring a celebrity DJ, distinguished alumni, and a showcase of HT’s history and achievements.
  2. Community Engagement Initiatives: Huston-Tillotson University will launch a series of community-focused projects, including volunteer drives, educational workshops, and partnerships with local organizations. These initiatives will underscore the University’s commitment to service and community development.
  3. Academic Symposiums and Lectures: Throughout the year, the University will host a variety of academic events, including symposiums, panel discussions, and guest lectures by renowned scholars and industry leaders.
