Four very promising additions to HT Men’s Soccer signed their letter of intent, earlier today, indicating another very positive step for the HT Rams as they look to make a splash in the Red River Athletic Conference in 2015. Edgar Vazquez, Mario Fuentes, Obed Garza & Clay Kirk are four of what is expected to be a class of around 8 additions for the 2015 season, for the Rams Men’s Soccer program.
Head Coach, Rob Ferguson, commented, “Each of these young men adds real soccer quality to our squad and can compete for a starting position in their first year. More importantly, they are hard working, honest and determined young men, which are attributes we require from all of our players, on the field and in the classroom”.
Mario Fuentes, a Sr. at LBJ High School and integral player on the Lonestars 97B Red EST team for a number of years brings additional quality to an already strong midfield group. Mario is attack minded, very mobile and can score goals from the midfield. Academically, Mario plans to enter in to the Criminal Justice Program. Mario is from Austin and is one of four siblings; with two older sisters, Vanessa and Anai, and a younger brother, Gustavo. Mario’s parents are Porfirio and Monica Fuentes.
Clay Kirk, a former HT Ram, returns following time studying at ACC. Clay is a very fast and creative attacking midfield player, who will add a dynamic element to the Rams offense. Clay plans to major in Kinesiology, and he is from New Iberia, Louisiana. Clay has one sister, Kyla and his parents are Debbie and Coby.
Obed Garza, a record breaking Del Valle HS Alumni, has been studying at ACC since graduating from Del Valle in 2014. Obed scored more than 50 goals in his final two years at Del Valle, and was back to back district 15 5a MVP. Obed plans to study Accounting and Business Management, and was born in Matamoros Tamaulipas, Mexico, but has lived most of his live here in Austin. Obed comes from a family of five, his parents are, Jose Luis and Luz Garza, his younger sister is Arelly Garza (a soccer player herself, at Lonestar SC), and his younger brother is Luis Angel Garza.
Edgar Vazquez, a former Lonestar SC player, graduated Akins HS in 2011 and has been working while studying at ACC in recent years. Edgar brings a great level of experience through his time at LSC and also through his experiences since HS. He is a very level headed young man, who can be a very influential soccer player at HT. Edgar is a left footed midfielder, but is very versatile and reliable, on both sides of the ball. Edgar will study Kinesiology at HT, he was born and raised in Austin, TX and his parents are Francisco and Guadalupe Vazquez and he has two younger siblings, Francisco and Ximena.
