HT Students Win First Place at the BEEP Case Competition

(AUSTIN, Texas) 6.14.13 — A team of Huston-Tillotson University students took first place in the Black Executive Exchange Program (BEEP) Case Competition that was hosted by the National Urban League recently at the organization’s leadership conference in Orlando, Florida. The team of Yohannis Job, Oscar Rodriguez (right), and Chad Williams (left), attending the Student Leadership Institute, competed in the national competition for the first time.
The three students, majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in marketing, were coached by Dr. Kathryn Davis, HT marketing faculty and case competition advisor, who guided the team to victory with a stimulating and relevant case delivery.
“We spent many hours conducting research to put our best effort into this challenging business case, and it paid off,” said Job who developed the business plan. Rodriguez and Williams focused on the financial analysis as well as the overall presentation.
The competition required the students to analyze a complex business case for Sodexo Campus Services and develop a strategy to improve problems or issues. The trio created a health and wellness plan for Sodexo that included nutritional, intellectual, physical, spiritual, social, safety, and environmental elements for the win that included laptop computers as the prize.
Created in 1969, BEEP is the longest-running program in Urban League history and has reached more than 900,000 students. Founded in 1910, the National Urban League is a historic civil rights organization dedicated to economic empowerment in order to elevate the standard of living in historically underserved urban communities.
Huston-Tillotson University is a historically black institution located in Austin, Texas, offering Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees in 19 areas of study.
