HT Faculty and Student Named a Mellon Fellow

Dr. Alaine Hutson
Dr. Alaine Hutson, Huston-Tillotson University’s Assistant Professor of English, has been selected to receive a 2013 UNCF/Mellon Programs Faculty Residency Fellowship. The fellowship allows Hudson the opportunity to continue to grow and develop as a scholar while pursuing her research on the history of slavery on the Arabian Peninsula in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.  The program comes with a $15,000 award to support research, writing, and travel during the 2013 residency period. 

 

 
Megan Gonzelez
Huston-Tillotson University mathematics and chemistry major Megan Gonzalez has been selected as a participant  in the UNCF/ Mellon Fellowship program.  She gained acceptance into the program based on her outstanding academic achievements and her potential to become a professor and scholar at the college or university level.  The program provides Gonzalez, a sophomore, with a $1,800 stipend per academic semester.  In addition, she will receive summer and annual travel stipends as well as funding to support research activities and Graduate Record Examination (GRE) preparation.  Dr. Brad Rowland, HT’s assistant professor of chemistry, will serve as Gonzalez’s UNCF/Mellon Mentor for the entirety of the fellowship.
