Dr. Melva K. Williams Named to the ACE Board of Directors

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Thursday, May 2, 2023, Melva K. Williams, Ph.D., president of Huston-Tillotson University (HT) was named a designated member of the American Council on Education (ACE) Board of Directors.
Williams was formally named during ACE’s business meeting conducted via a webinar with ACE members, and her term will begin in April 2023, after ACE’s Annual Meeting, held April 13 – 15. During this meeting, Linda A. Livingston, Ph.D., president of Baylor University was also recognized as the next chair of the ACE Board of Directors. She succeeds Michael Rao, Ph.D., president of Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) and will serve until September 2024. Livingstone currently serves as vice chair.
Williams is the 7th president of Huston-Tillotson University in Austin, Texas. Previously, she served in various senior leadership roles in higher education and corporate America. Since taking the helm of Austin’s first institution of higher learning and one of the most respected private historically black universities in the nation, President Williams has become committed to developing leading-edge educational experiences that will enhance its current research and scholarship offerings, while preparing HT graduates to compete successfully in a global workplace.
