Huston-Tillotson Welcomes New University Chaplain, Reverend Marcus Jones

Dear Community Members,

It is with great excitement that we introduce Reverend Marcus Jones as the new University Chaplain. Rev. Jones brings a profound commitment to spiritual growth, community engagement, and student development, making him a remarkable addition to our institution.

A native of Dallas, Texas, Rev. Jones is a proud graduate of Huston-Tillotson University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management with a minor in Marketing. He continued his academic journey at Southern Methodist University’s Perkins School of Theology (SMU), earning a Master of Divinity in Black Church Studies.

Rev. Jones answered his call to the ministry during his time as a student at Huston-Tillotson University and was ordained as an elder in 2011. Since then, he has served in various leadership roles, including children and youth pastor, director of outreach, and Christian education leader. He completed his Chaplain Internship at Huston-Tillotson University further solidifying his commitment to faith-based mentorship in higher education.

Rev. Jones’s career is marked by his exceptional work with campus ministries, having served as the Executive Director of the Wesley Foundation at Midwestern State University and as the leader of the MOSAIC Cross-Cultural Center. Most recently, he served as Executive Director of UTA Wesley at the University of Texas at Arlington, where he cultivated inclusive spaces that fostered both spiritual and personal growth for students.

In addition to his pastoral work, Rev. Jones is an accomplished author. His book, Christ the Yard: A Guide to Christian Living and Ministry on the College Campus, reflects his deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities that students face. His passion for connecting faith and culture is evident in his thoughtful writing, which often explores the intersection of Christianity, hip-hop, and the arts.

Rev. Jones’s life is anchored by his devotion to his family, his wife, Tiffany, and their two sons, Jalen (17) and Ian (9). He describes his life mission as being a “bridge of love and information,” guiding those he encounters toward growth, understanding, and purpose.

As University Chaplain, Rev. Jones will play a pivotal role in fostering a sense of belonging and spiritual well-being within our campus community. We are confident that his leadership will enrich the lives of our students, faculty, and staff.

Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Reverend Marcus Jones and his family as they become an integral part of our university family. Also, I would deeply appreciate any opportunities for him to participate or support your ministry. Please reach out to him @ marcusjones@htu.edu.

Thank you for your continued support of our mission and commitment to excellence in education and faith.

Warm regards,
