Huston-Tillotson President Melva Wallace selected as an ABJ Power Player

Wallace is one of 115 Austin area leaders selected to the publication’s second annual list
Austin, Texas – October 2, 2024 – Huston-Tillotson University (HT) President and CEO Melva K. Wallace was recently named to the class of 2024 Austin Business Journal (ABJ) Power Players. Wallace joins other pivotal community members who are shaping the landscape of Central Texas such as Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, Michael Dell, CEO of Dell Technologies, and Robert Smith, founder and CEO of Vista Equity Partners. HT Board of Trustees members Chris Hyams, CEO of Indeed, and Greg Weaver, executive vice president of Catellus Development, were also among the 115 persons identified for this honor.
According to ABJ editor Colin Pope, the selectees for the publication’s second annual list of power players all have outsized impacts on this city, their industries or even the world.
“There are people changing Austin’s famous Sixth Street forever, tech executives atop modern empires and even community activists who greatly impact real estate development. There are pros who keep Austin weird and some who drive the city into big-city territory. And many of these professionals are quite approachable. In fact, many made the list largely for the helping hands they constantly extend,” Pope said.
“This acknowledgement is not solely a reflection of my personal achievements, but it also highlights the incredible work being done at Huston-Tillotson University,” Wallace said. “I am truly honored to receive this recognition and equally proud to lead an institution with such a rich history of educating the forerunners of innovation and academic excellence, while preparing future leaders for a global workplace.”
The selectees will be recognized during a private, invitation-only reception slated for later this year.
