HT Receives $492,528 Grant to Support Human-Robot Interactions

(AUSTIN, Texas) 9.12.16 — Huston-Tillotson University has been awarded a $492,528 grant from the Department of the Army, Technology Integration and Outreach Division, in response to the Department of Defense (DoD) Research and Education Program for Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Minority-Serving Institutions Equipment/Instrumentation to support Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) efforts.  In particular, the Computer Science Department is set to embark upon research to identify key safety issues within human-robot interactions, to develop advanced robotics systems while enabling cutting-edge instruction and research that will ultimately impact home and work applications.

“The influence on classroom instruction through the applications that will be introduced as a result of this grant is exciting for both students and the University,” said HT President and Chief Executive Officer Colette Pierce Burnette.

Students and researchers will work through applications in the areas mechatronics, artificial intelligence, web application development, embedded systems development, and mechanical/electrical engineering, providing real-world STEM experiences and challenges.
