Another Road Win vs Texas Wesleyan

Texas Wesleyan University (NAIA D1) 0-2 HT Lady Rams

After the bad weather canceled the Rams scheduled home game on Sept 12th, the HT Women’s Soccer team traveled up to Fort Worth to face Texas Wesleyan University, a team they had never beaten in their history.

The game was very evenly matched in the first 45 minutes with HT having their fair share of good possession and territorial advantage. The Lady Rams always looked like the most dangerous of the two teams with Elizalde and Palacios both looking lively and hard working up front, creating the best chances of the game for HT. The game was scoreless at the half.

The second half really saw HT come to life. Within 3 minutes Palacios drove into the box and hit a right footed effort that the TWU keeper could only try to punch. The pace of the shot took it into the net and put HT 1-0 up, and deservedly so.

This just spurred on the Rams for more. Another piece of magical play almost ended in the goal of the season when Palacios flicked the ball over a defenders head and blasted a volley at goal. This time the keeper made a great save.

The second goal came in the 54th minute. Again Palacios involved when her shot was parried by the keeper only for the on rushing Victoria Elizalde to stoop in and head home from close range to give HT the 2 goal cushion they really needed against a very athletic TWU side.

This was a very mature performance indeed from the Lady Rams. Having previously conceded too many simple goals through lack of concentration, the ladies were determined not to let this one slip. Wonderful performances at the back from Cantera, Hernandez and Ramos coupled with a fighting display in midfield from Craft, Montealvo and Seeliger meant that TWU just could not find a way through the defense. An excellent performance from goalkeeper Evelyn Martinez throughout the game resulted in her first clean sheet of the season.

This type of focus and performance is exactly what the team is looking to take into the RRAC in just over a weeks time.

Next up is a home game vs SAGU on Tuesday Sept 23rd, 3pm KO before the ladies travel to St Mary’s University on Sunday Sept 28th. Please come out and cheer the ladies on!
