Rams Tie Texas Lutheran

HT Lady Rams 4-4 Texas Lutheran University (NCAA III)

This was as exciting as they come. The HT Lady Rams put in their most complete performance of the season so far by dominating TLU from the get go. Winning every header, tackle and 50:50 ball. It was only a matter of time til HT took the lead. The goal came when forward Kimberlin Palacios whipped a ball into the 6 yard area from the right and it was deflected in by one of the TLU defenders. 1-0 HT.

TLU had a 5 minute spell just before the half were they put the Rams under pressure with high balls into the box. Their equalizer came from a header that squirmed under goalkeeper Evelyn Martinez. 1-1 at the half.

The second half was much the same as the first. HT first to every ball and some great inter changing passing through the midfield with players like Castellanos, Montealvo and Craft. The deserved second goal came when Montealvo curled in a free-kick under the bar to make it 2-1 HT. Then came HT’s third. A header from a corner by freshman Morgan Seeliger who out muscled the TLU defenders to plant one into the back of the net for 3-1.

Almost immediately TLU responded.  Space on the edge of the box for a TLU forward was smashed into the roof of the net for 3-2.

Then came the goal of the game from HT.  Smart play down the right released forward Elizalde who beat her full back with ease and crossed for the on rushing Hope Craft who made no mistake in burying her chance first time to  make it 4-2 HT.

With HT hoping to see the game out, a 5 minute lapse in concentration and another aerial bombardment led to 2 quick goals for TLU. The first a glancing header, the second a long free-kick that evaded everybody and ended up in the back of the net. 4-4 at Full-time.

HT regathered their composure and played out 2 halves of overtime looking for the winner that just would not come. A great game and a great performance despite just missing out on the victory.

Next up is a very busy week for HT. Thursday Sept 18th the ladies travel to Houston-Victoria. Saturday Sept 20th the team will travel to Texas Wesleyan for a rescheduled game, then Tuesday Sept 23rd is the final preseason home game vs SAGU, KO 3pm. Please come out and support the ladies!
