Lady Rams Defeat Cisco On The Road

On Tuesday Sept 2nd, the Lady Rams Soccer team traveled to Cisco Junior College for their second scrimmage of the season.

Despite a slow start to the game by HT which saw Cisco race into a two goal lead, HT made a remarkable recovery to get back into the game almost immediately.

A pin point corner kick from Cristina Montealvo was met with a towering header at the back post from Kimberlin Palacios. Cisco then responded to make it 3-1 only for Palacios to score her second after a great ball from right back Angie Renteria released her down the right wing. After ghosting past the full back, Palacios poked the ball home at the near post, 3-2, half time.

The second half was all about the Lady Rams. Assured, aggressive and organized defending kept Cisco limited to long range efforts and crosses from deep.

The third and equalizing goal came from another well worked corner kick from Montealvo, this time, met by Katia Castellanos who rose above her marker to direct a header into the roof of the net. Then came the fourth. A third corner converted, this time to the back post where freshman Morgan Seeliger grabbed her 2nd college goal of the week with a downward header that arrowed into the far corner of the net.

Palacios wrapped up the victory with her hat-trick goal and HTs fifth when she fed off the work from Victoria Elizalde before hitting a right foot drive into the near corner of the net.

The most pleasing aspect of this victory was the way in which the Lady Rams defended in the second half. Desperate not to give up any more cheap goals they won everything that was thrown at them and used the ball really well in attack.

Next up for HT is NCAA III Concordia University at St Stephen’s Episcopal School on Sunday Sept 7th, 3 p.m. KO. Come out and support the girls!
