Lady Rams Claim First Victory of the Season

HT Lady Rams 3-2 Schreiner University (NCAA D3)

The HT Lady Rams soccer team earned their first victory of the season on Sunday afternoon with a hard fought match with NCAA D3 Schreiner University.

A slow first half in blistering heat provided little entertainment other than a thunderous 30-yard free kick from HT’s Angie Renteria that crashed off the frame of the goal and away to safety. HT struggled to match their energy in the previous three games until the second half started.

The first goal came from great work by HT’s first-year forward Kimberlin Palacios who touched the ball past the SU keeper from a tight angle and slotted the ball home to make it 1-0 Rams. Shortly after, Victoria Elizalde made it 2-0 Rams with a trade mark goal, lifting the ball over the head of the on rushing keeper and into the back of the net.

Then came a lapse in concentration following a water break. Two quick goals from SU, one a header and another a neat shot from the edge of the box tied the game up at the end of normal time, 2-2.

Overtime started and the Golden Goal to win the game came almost immediately when a wonderful through ball from midfield player Stephanie Sarceno sent Palacios through on goal again and she made no mistake in bending the ball into the near top corner to grab her second of the night and win the game 3-2 for the Lady Rams.

A great result for HT.  The ladies now head to Cisco Jr College for a scrimmage game on Tuesday Sept 2nd!
