We are excited to welcome you to the Field Supervisor Portal for Huston-Tillotson University’s Educator Preparation Program. As a valued member of the HT Alternative Teacher Certification Program (ATCP) team, your role is vital in shaping the professional journey of our teacher candidates. This portal provides key resources, training materials, and guidance to support you in your dual role as mentor and evaluator. Assigned to each intern upon approval of their Statement of Eligibility (SOE) and internship placement, Field Supervisors serve as a critical link between the university and EC–12 campuses. You are expected to cultivate strong professional relationships with campus administrators, cooperating teachers, and interns/clinical teachers to ensure a successful and supportive certification experience. Your leadership, timely feedback, and encouragement are central to the growth and success of every candidate you support.
Under Texas Education Agency (TEA) regulations, individuals serving as field supervisors for Educator Preparation Programs (EPPs) are required to hold valid and appropriate educator certifications According to the Texas Administrative Code (TAC) §228.101, a field supervisor must have valid certification in the class in which supervision is provided or at least a master’s degree in the related academic area, along with compliance with continuing professional education requirements. Furthermore, the Texas Education Code §21.003(a) stipulates that an individual may not be employed as an educator unless the person holds an appropriate certificate or permit issued by the State Board for Educator Certification. In accordance with TEA Administrative Code §228.2 and §228.35(g), Huston-Tillotson University’s Educator Preparation Program (EPP) maintains the responsibility to verify and document the eligibility, certification status, and professional standing of each appointed Field Supervisor. While TEA provides certification records, the Field Supervior must documentation confirming their following qualification:
– Valid Teacher Certification appropriate to the class of certification held by the candidate (TEA )
– Minimum of three years of relevant teaching experience (resume)
– Completion of TEA-required field supervisor or T-TESS calibration training Certiicate;
– Not currently employed at the candidate’s school, in accordance with TEA’s conflict-of-interest guidance.
As part of the Educator Preparation Program at Huston-Tillotson University, the Field Supervisor plays a vital role in supporting clinical teachers during their practicum or internship. The responsibilities include:
Field Supervisors facilitating EDUC 4907 or ATCP 476A and ATCP 476B)
with are expected to:
– Conduct Cooperating Teacher training as needed with EPP support.
– Analyze data to guide candidate improvement plans.
– Submit monthly documentation unless otherwise arranged.
– Conduct four (4) formal 45-minute observations per semester.
– Follow the full POP Cycle: Pre-conference, Observation, Post-conference.
– Use EPP-approved T-TESS-aligned instruments.
– Upload signed copies to Canvas and email to the ATCP Director within 48 hours.
– Provide observation feedback to the candidate and the campus principal.
– Attend Field Supervisor Training sessions.
