Prior Safe & Healthy Rams Updates
Effective immediately, masks will be optional in all common spaces on campus. Masks are always recommended for unvaccinated individuals or those with conditions such as immunosuppression that may make vaccination less protective.
Classroom mask use will be determined by individual faculty members. Faculty may decide to require masks or make masks optional based on faculty and student needs. Students may request masking in class by making a private request to the faculty member. No individual’s private health information will be disclosed when the mask requirement is communicated to class.
Individual office mask use will be determined by the individual whose office is being entered. The individual entering may request that the occupant wear a mask when entering a private office space as well. Individuals should inquire proactively.
Everyone is advised to carry a mask with them on campus at all times. Back-up masks are available throughout campus as needed. Building Managers can contact university facilities for replenishment of mask supplies.

We are committed to maintaining a safe on-campus, in-person experience for our entire campus community. Therefore, we are extending our precautionary measures given diligent close monitoring of the public health situation and following the science. The current projections for this Omicron variant surge timeline warrant an extension of remote learning through January 28, 2022.
Please note the following:
- On-campus student support services are open and available, such as the Downs-Jones Library, Center for Academic Excellence, counseling center, and other support services.
- We will continue to use the HT Ram Check mobile app for access to campus. Please contact the Safe & Healthy Rams coordinator for assistance at safehealthyrams@htu.edu and 512.505.3019.
- Masks will continue to be required in all indoor public and shared spaces on campus and strongly encouraged outdoors when unable to physically distance.
We are continuing our close monitoring of the public health situation and following the science to put protocols, procedures, and guidelines in place to ensure a safe and healthy campus environment. Given the current rapid spread of the Omicron variant, the City of Austin’s return to Stage 4, and the COVID-19 risk-based guidelines, the University will adhere to the following:

Vaccination and booster shots remain a critical layer of protection and still our most powerful tools against COVID-19. Vaccinations plus booster shots are the best protections against hospitalization and symptomatic infection. Therefore, we continue to encourage vaccinations and boosters.
Please monitor this page for routine updates to our Campus Reactivation Plan. Our Campus Reactivation Plan is a living and dynamic document of all protocols and policies, guiding Huston-Tillotson University through this global pandemic and public health crisis. What remains paramount is the overall well-being of members of our campus community by maintaining safe and healthy living, learning, and teaching environments. Please reach out to the Safe & Healthy Rams office at safehealthyrams@htu.edu or 512.505.3019 with any questions.
