Lending Policies

STUDENTS

Items Checked Out By Students

  • Students can check out up to:
    • 20 books
    • 5 DVDs
    • 1 textbook
    • 1 pair of headphones
    • 1 Chromebook laptop
    • 5 Interlibrary Loan items
  • Students cannot check out
    • Media equipment
  • Books circulate for 3 weeks. They can be renewed 2 times for 3 weeks each, for a maximum of 9 weeks. Books have a late fee of 25 cents/day.
  • DVDs circulate for 3 weeks. They can be renewed 2 times for 3 weeks each, for a maximum of 9 weeks. DVDs have a late fee of 25 cents/day.
  • Textbooks circulate for 2 hours at a time, and should not leave the library. They cannot be renewed by the student, but a librarian may – if no one else has requested the book – check in the book and check it out again to the same student. They do not accrue late fees.
  • Headphones circulate for 2 hours, but should not leave the library. They do not accrue late fees.
  • Chromebooks circulate for 3 weeks. They cannot be renewed by the student, but a librarian may – if no one is waiting for a laptop – check in the Chromebook and check it out again to the same student. They have a late fee of $5.00/day.
  • Interlibrary Loan items circulate based on the lending library’s policy, with the lending library’s assigned due date.
  • Students will be emailed a receipt with due dates automatically upon checkout.

Items Placed on Hold by Students

  • Students can place holds on up to:
    • 5 items, which will be held for them for 1 week
    • Holds cannot be placed on textbooks or headphones.

Items Due from Students

  • Students will be automatically emailed about books, DVDs, Chromebooks, and Interlibrary Loan items due back:
    • 3 days before they are due
    • The day they are due
    • 1 week after they are due
    • 2 weeks after they are due
    • 3 weeks after they are due
    • At 1 month past due, the items will be marked as LOST and the student will be billed.
  • Students will not be emailed about textbooks and headphones.
  • Books and DVDs have a grace period of 2 days before fines begin to accrue
  • Chromebooks have a grace period of 1 day before fines begin to accrue

Items Lost or Irreparably Damaged By Students:

  • All items have a $15 processing fee.
  • Lost books and DVDs are $30 (for a total of $45).
  • Lost textbooks should not happen – they should not leave the library. In the rare event that a textbook is lost, we will consult with the owning professor.
  • Lost headphones should not happen – they should not leave the library. Lost/broken headphones incur only the $15 processing fee.
  • Lost Chromebooks are $200 (for a total of $215).
  • Lost Interlibrary Loan items will be handled based on the lending library’s policy.

Faculty and Staff

Items Checked Out By Faculty and Staff

  • Faculty and Staff can check out up to:
    • 30 books
    • 10 DVDs
    • 1 textbook
    • 1 pair of headphones
    • 5 Interlibrary Loan items
    • 2 pieces of media equipment
  • Faculty and Staff cannot check out
    • Chromebook laptops
  • Books circulate for 4 weeks. They can be renewed 3 times for 4 weeks each, for a maximum of 16 weeks. They do not accrue late fees.
  • DVDs circulate for 4 weeks. They can be renewed 3 times for 4 weeks each, for a maximum of 16 weeks. They do not accrue late fees.
  • Textbooks circulate for 2 hours at a time, and should not leave the library. They cannot be renewed by the patron, but a librarian may – if no one else has requested the book – check in the book and check it out again to the same patron. They do not accrue late fees.
  • Headphones circulate for 2 hours, but should not leave the library. They do not accrue late fees.
  • Media equipment items circulate for 1 week. They can be renewed 2 times, for 1 week each, for a maximum of 3 weeks. They do not accrue late fees.
  • Interlibrary Loan items circulate based on the lending library’s policy, with the lending library’s assigned due date..
  • Faculty and Staff will be emailed a receipt with due dates automatically upon checkout.

  • Faculty and Staff can place holds on up to:
    • 5 items, which will be held for them for 1 week

  • Faculty and Staff will be automatically emailed about books, DVDs, media equipment, and Interlibrary Loan items due back:
    • 3 days before they are due
    • The day they are due

    • 2 weeks after they are due
    • 3 weeks after they are due
    • At 1 month past due, the items will be marked as LOST and the faculty or staff member will be billed.

Items Lost or Irreparably Damaged By Faculty and Staff:

  • Lost books and DVDs are $30 (for a total of $45).
  • Lost textbooks should not happen – they should not leave the library. If the professor who owns the textbook removes it and does not return it, it will be marked as Withdrawn and removed from the catalog.
  • Lost headphones should not happen – they should not leave the library. Lost/broken headphones incur only the $15 processing fee.
  • Lost media equipment fees will be assessed based on the replacement price for the specific piece of equipment.
  • Lost Interlibrary Loan items will be handled based on the lending library’s policy.

Courtesy Borrowers

  • Courtesy Borrowers can check out up to:
    • 5 books
    • 2 DVDs
    • 1 pair of headphones
  • Courtesy Borrowers cannot check out
    • Textbooks
    • Chromebook laptops
    • Interlibrary Loan items
    • Media equipment
  • Books circulate for 3 weeks. They can be renewed 1 time for 3 weeks each, for a maximum of 6 weeks. Books have a late fee of 25 cents/day.
  • DVDs circulate for 3 weeks. They can be renewed 1 times for 3 weeks each, for a maximum of 6 weeks. DVDs have a late fee of 25 cents/day.
  • Headphones circulate for 2 hours, but should not leave the library. They do not accrue late fees.
  • Courtesy Borrowers will be emailed a receipt with due dates automatically upon checkout.
