July is Minority Mental Health Awareness Month

In honor of National Minority Mental Health Month, Huston-Tillotson University Sandra Joy Anderson Community Health and Wellness Center, the National Alliance on Mental Illness – Austin, and the UT Dell Medical School Health Disparities Team are sponsoring a Sharing Hope Jazz Brunch and Presentation on Saturday, July 9, 2016, starting at 10:30 a.m.

The Sharing Hope event is culturally tailored for the African American community and addresses lack of information and misconceptions surrounding mental health issues. These issues are addressed through engaging storytelling of family members and individuals living with mental illness. The presentation will include:  The signs and symptoms of mental health conditions, how to talk about mental health and decrease stigma, an overview of recovery and how it’s possible, and the types of mental health services and supports available, including NAMI educational and support programs.

The event will be held at the Huston-Tillotson University Sandra Joy Anderson Community Health and Wellness Center at 1705 East 11th Street (the corner of 11th Street  and Chalmers Avenue).

Brunch and jazz by the Distinguished Soundz will be provided.

The event is free and open to the public. Space is limited. Free Parking.  Please register at http://sharinghopebrunch.eventbrite.com
