UT Brownsville Gets the Best Out Of HT
Thursday Oct, 24 2013
The Lady Rams put in their finest performance of the season only to run out of chances in a fast paced and energetic game against University of Texas-Brownsville.
For 20 minutes, The Lady Rams struggled to take the lead through several unsuccessful attempts to score. The first try was made by starter Courtney Wilcut as she attempted to make a goal from 6 yards out. The next unsuccessful attempt was yielded by Victoria Elizalde from the corner of the field. The unfortunate plight of the Lady Rams came full circle after a handball violation gifted UTB the lead through a penalty kick. The score was then set at 1-0 during half time.
The second period saw more hard work and effort from HT. The Lady Rams went searching for the equalizer despite the skillful UTB’s control of the game through good possession. A couple of good moves eventually led to a second score for UTB from close range.
HT’s Lady Rams remained hopeful as they attempted to get back into the game. An unfortunate decision made by the referee allowed a headed goal to stand despite a foul made by the opposition. This took the score up and UTB lead 3-0. The 4th came soon after when the Rams unbelievable effort started take its toll.
HT fought to the end and made the goal their performance so richly deserved when Wilcut span 30 yards out and hit a trade mark dipping left foot shot that the keeper could only watch hit the back of the net.
The final score was 4-1 with UTB conquering the Lady Rams. Although defeated, this was HT’s best team performance since the seasons start.
The Lady Rams will play the conference leader OLLU on Saturday at 5 p.m. at Stassney.
