HT Remain Unbeaten with USW tie!
Monday Oct, 07 2013
The Lady Rams soccer team matched up against the University of the Southwest on Saturday night on the back of two victories out of two in the Red River Conference.
Despite a fantastic opening 5 minutes from HT, it was USW who controlled much of the first half and took a deserved 1-0 lead into the half time break.
HT set about making amends for a disappointing first half performance with a much more energetic and competitive second period. The excellent midfield efforts of Alba Mendoza and Erica Ramos led the fightback and it was Ramos who leveled the game with an outstanding first time effort from outside the box that flew past the USW keeper and in off the post to make it 1-1.
From that moment on it was HT who looked the most likely winners but despite their efforts and some excellent defending from the USW back line, normal time ended 1-1.
The first period of overtime was dominated by HT and the ladies came desperately close to winning the game on two occasions. Firstly through a Courtney Wilcut free-kick that crashed back off the cross bar and secondly through a fine left footed drive from Katia Castellanos which again smashed the woodwork and bounced to safety. The game was to end 1-1 after OT, a fair result in a game were both teams could have taken all the spoils.
Still unbeaten (2-0-1) and their best start to any conference season to date, the Lady Rams head to Texas College on Thursday looking for another victory on the road.
