Great Conference Start For HT!
Wednesday Oct, 02 2013
The HT Women’s Soccer team got off to a dream start this past weekend with 2 wins out of 2 on the road in their first Red River Conference games of the season.
Firstly the girls visited Marshall, Texas to face Wiley College on Thursday Sept 26th. A very one sided contest saw the Lady Rams run out 6-0 winners with goals from Tori Reyes (2), Courtney Wilcut, Jessica Loyola, Victoria Elizalde and Erica Ramos.
The girls then headed to Muskogee, Oklahoma to match up against Bacone College. This was a thrilling game with both teams showing their qualities from the start. After Bacone took the lead against the run of play, a wonderful volley from Wilcut after a Reyes ball over the top was smashed into the back of the Bacone net to make it 1-1.
Then came the turning point in the match. Goalkeeper Angelica Erazo pulled off an amazing penalty save when she dove to her right and then quickly smothered the rebound to keep the score level. Shortly after, a well worked corner kick from Reyes was headed in off the post by defender Adriana Becerra, 2-1.
Just 6 minutes into the 2nd half the stormy weather forced the game to be delayed for just over an hour. The break did not deter HT. The ladies came out and dominated the remaining 39 minutes in the wet conditions. A typical Elizalde goal made it 3-1 when she outpaced the Bacone back line and slotted home the rebound under intense pressure from both keeper and defender. Katia Castellanos then sealed the game when she scored with her first touch after coming onto the field from the subs bench. Castellanos smashed a right foot shot into the far corner after the ball was expertly rolled back to her just inside the box.
The Lady Rams now hope to continue their best ever start to a season when they play University of the Southwest on Saturday Oct 5th, 5pm @ Stassney Fields, Austin. Come and support the girls!
