Lady Ram’s volleyball struggle in first conference match

Austin, TX — The Lady Rams volleyball team hosted a tri-match with the first match against RRAC south division rival Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) and then played Dallas Christian College (DCC) from the ACCA.
The Saints from OLLU were dominating leaving the Lady Rams 0-1 in conference play 17-25, 7-25, and 17-25. Freshman setter A’Kia Mumphrey (Longview/Longview HS) and senior setter Olivia Sanchez (San Antonio/Palo Alto CC) each had 7 assists in directing the Lady Rams 6-2 offense. Freshman outside hitter D’Janae Robinson (San Antonio/Northwest Vista College) led with 6 kills with support from junior middle hitter Octavia Golden (Dallas/Trinity Valley CC) with 4 kills. Junior libero Amber Green (San Antonio/Roosevelt HS) along with senior Nicole Cowan (Yoakum/UMHB) and Robinson all had 7 digs on defense.
The Crusaders from DCC were consistent in their ball control as they swept the Lady Rams 12-25, 23-25, and 18-25. Sanchez and Mumphrey had 8 and 7 assists respectively while Mumphrey led with 5 kills. Cowan had 11 digs with support from Mumphrey’s 9 digs on defense.
Next Opponents: The Lady Rams travel to NCAA Division I Prairie View A&M University on Monday, September 16, for a 7:00 pm match before traveling down to NAIA # 2 ranked University of Texas-Brownsville on Friday, September 20.
