Concordia Hang On For Tie!
Friday Sep, 13 2013
The HT Women’s Soccer team had their second competitive home game of the season vs Concordia University – Texas on Wednesday night.
A very hard fought first half was evenly contested which saw Concordia take the lead from a corner that was headed in at the back post. HT huffed and puffed without creating too many clear opportunities before right on the stroke of half-time, Tori Reyes chipped in a free kick from the edge of the box to level the score 1-1.
The second half belonged to HT. Pressing higher up the field and offering more support to their forwards it was looking like the Lady Rams would find a way to take the lead. Unfortunately against the run of play, CU took the lead again with a well hit free-kick from the right hand side of the box.
HT did not sit back. They continued to drive forward for a second equalizer and it came 5 minutes from time when a corner from Reyes found the feet of the tireless Victoria Elizalde who lifted the ball into the top corner from 8 yards out.
Overtime commenced and only one team looked like winning the game. Several chances came from free-kicks and corners but the ball just would not go in for the winner.
A great performance that could so easily have been a win. Onto the next game now vs Texas Lutheran on Sunday Sept 15th!
