Tough Weekend, Excellent Performances!
Monday Sep, 09 2013
The HT Women’s Soccer team hit the road again this past weekend with trips to Wayland Baptist University on Friday Sept 6th, followed by Lubbock Christian University on Saturday Sept 7th.
WB proved to be too much on the night with some very physical play and some cool finishing in front of goal. This was an excellent opportunity for the girls to be able to compete with a team of this level. The highlight of the match was a wonderful first time 35 yard lob into the WB net from Jessica Loyola that pulled back a goal for the Lady Rams who were defeated 4-1 on the night.
Less than 24 hours later the girls were on the road again to LCU from the Heartland NCAA DII conference. The ladies put in an unbelievable effort and held LCU until the last 20 minutes when an unfortunate mix up from a corner kick led to a scrambled goal for LCU. HT was desperately unlucky before that not to have taken the lead themselves. Victoria Elizalde raced through in the first half only to be thwarted by the onrushing keeper after a great pass from Erica Ramos. Courtney Wilcut then lashed a drive against the crossbar in the second half which had beaten the goalkeeper all ends up. LCU did score a second late in the game to make it 2-0 at the final, but it did not dampen the spirits of HT after two very challenging games against quality opposition.
A great weekend to continue preparations for the RRAC season ahead!
